Suspension upgrades provide a very noticeable and exhilirating
change to your car!
There are three basic categories of aftermarket suspension systems:
- More aggressive spring with stock shocks
- More agressive springs with aftermarket shocks
- Coilovers
- Any of the above with stiffening bars added
The first solution will normally keep a very stock feeling ride while
providing a ride that is 1-2 inches lower than stock. This is a
very economical way to reduce wheel gap without spending an arm and
a leg in parts and labour.
Adding aftermarket shocks can either create a smoother ride, or
a more aggressive ride (depending on which types you buy). Since this
is completely subjective, I will not add to this.
Coilover systems are a very aggressive (and costly) way
to gain almost racecar-like control over your suspension as a whole.
Coilovers often make tasks like lowering and raising the car as simple
as turning a wrench, as well as adding multiple adjustments for spring
characteristics and others.
Finally, adding support bars to the car will create a much stiffer
feel, helping eliminate body roll, body flex, understeer, and other undesirable
handling characteristics. These parts include front and rear sway-bars, and upper
and lower tie-bars.
